Peter Dieke

Professor Peter Dieke is a private consultant in the area of international tourism development. A graduate of the University of Nigeria (BA), the University of Massachusetts (MSc) and the University of Strathclyde, UK (PhD), he has established himself as a leading scholar in tourism development, focusing on policy, planning, and implementation strategies (especially with regard to less developed countries generally, with a regional interest in sub-Saharan Africa).

He has written and taught extensively on these topics. Dr Dieke has a positive profile of public services, being active, on an advisory capacity, in a variety of international organisations including United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA); United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO); the African Union (previously Organisation of African Unity (OAU); World Tourism Organisation (WTO); the Foundation for Democracy in Africa; NEPAD (The New Partnership for Africa’s Development); ATLAS Africa (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education), etc.

He is one of the founding members of the Academic Advisory Panel (AAP) of the International Tourism Partnership (ITP), which is a think tank of education leaders in hospitality, sustainable tourism, research and training. Dr Dieke is also on the editorial board of a number of academic tourism journals including Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Recreation Research, etc and is the regional editor (for Africa) of Tourism Review International. He has had familiarity and experience of international higher education, e.g. Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Switzerland, UAE, UK USA, etc through involvement in international teaching and programme development assignments.
